The Royal Challengers Bangalore, boasting of great strikers of the cricket ball at the top, have found a vital player in the middle order in Sarfaraz Khan. His brilliant cameo against Sunrisers Hyderabad in RCB’s tournament opener took many by surprise and the youngster credits the seniors in the side for his fine performance.

“After the first match, many senior players in the side gave me a lot of confidence. They reminded me that it was just the first match and there is a long way to go. They asked me to keep performing according to the situation,” said Sarfaraz here on the eve of his team’s clash against Mumbai Indians.

Sarfaraz added that apart from the encouragement, the inputs from many experienced players in the side have helped him a long way in improving his technique.

“Senior players like Virat Kohli and (Chris) Gayle have given me inputs and have advised me a lot. They have given me inputs on rotating the strike when I am batting with a set batsman and on how to adjust according to different types of situations in a game. This season, we have Shane Watson as well in our side and he has been a great help in my improvement as a player.”

The 18-year-old stressed that he is keen on not repeating the last season’s mistakes this time around. “This season, I don’t want to repeat the mistakes committed in the last season. I have learnt from my mistakes and I want to perform well. I was able to improve a lot during the U-19 World Cup under Rahul Dravid. I believe a lot in working hard in the ‘nets’ and I intend to keep practicing hard,” he said.

For the Mumbaikar, it will be playing in front of the ‘home’ crowd and Sarfaraz admitted that he is excited to play at the Wankhede Stadium. “I am excited to play here but at the same time I wish I don’t get a chance to bat. I hope our top order, which is in good form, do most of the damage. But if I do get a chance, then I will play according to the demands of my team. Just because I am playing in Mumbai, it doesn’t mean I will be out to prove a point.”
