The High Grounds police have arrested a youth for making away with cars after promising the owners of buying them.

The police said that the accused Pravin, 25, was arrested, and seven cars worth of Rs 52 lakh were recovered. Four others involved in the crime are absconding.

They used to look for used cars advertisements on OLX, a free online classified website which lets people buy or sell used items.

They used to contact the owner of the car and set up a meeting.
The fraudsters would express their interest in buying the car after the examining the vehicle. The gang members would tell the owner that they have cheque and need to go to a nearest bank to encash it.  They would, however, vanish with the car, added the police.

Hired cars used

Also, they used to hire cars from travel agencies and take away the car and fail to return it. After a few people lodged a complaint, the police started looking for the accused. They traced Pravin through the call records and arrested him, who confessed to the crime, mentioned the police.

The High Grounds police have registered a case and are tracing the absconding people.
