“I would like a short, simple statement from the Communist Party of India (Maoist) saying we will abjure violence and we are prepared for talks,” said a statement from the home minister issued here on Tuesday.
“I would like no ifs, no buts and no conditions. I would like the statement to be faxed to 011-23093155. Once I receive the statement, I shall consult the prime minister and other colleagues and respond promptly,” the home minister’s statement added.
Government has not yet received any official statement from the Maoists, and can do nothing on many versions of a statement, ministry officials said.
Maoist leader Koteshwar Rao alias Kishenji has reportedly said that they were ready to hold talks with the Union government.
The Maoists have declared that they would halt violence to create a suitable atmosphere for talks from February 25 to May 7, if the government at the Centre stopped anti-naxal operations.
