SC issues notice to Centre, CBI on PIL

Last Updated 06 May 2016, 19:42 IST

The Supreme Court on Friday sought the Centre’s response on a plea seeking police action against Congress president Sonia Gandhi and former prime minister Manmohan Singh in the chopper scam.

The Public Interest Litigation also named Sonia’s political adviser Ahmed Patel, seeking police action against the leaders for receiving bribes in the AgustaWestland scam.

A bench of Justices Dipak Misra and Shiva Kirti Singh admitted the petition filed by advocate M L Sharma for consideration and issued notice to the Union government and CBI, seeking their reply within 10 days. The court put the matter for further consideration in the third week of July. The Rs 3,600-crore deal of February 2010 for the supply of 12 choppers for use by top Indian leaders was signed when the Congress-led UPA was in power.
