Rly Ministry withdraws Rs 4-crore water bill

Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu has ordered withdrawal of bill sent to Latur district administration for the transportation of water to drought areas in rail tankers.

The ministry clarified on Friday that the bill was requested by the district administration.

“The Minister has ordered that the estimate of expenditure which was sent to the Latur administration, on their request, will be withdrawn immediately,” said the ministry in a clarification issued on Friday.

However, it has also been clarified that the issue of settlement of dues is being considered separately by the railway ministry.

The ministry has clarified on how and why the bill was sent. It has said the Latur district administration had requested Central Railway administration to indicate the cost of water transportation by railways.

“In response to this request, Central Railway shared the information on cost of operation in transporting water. The settlement of expenditure is not relevant at this point of time as the most important matter is to continue uninterruptedly with the transportation of water to the people in their hour of need,” said the ministry.
