A 70-yr-old man in Uttar Pradesh's Lakhimpur Kheri district who fought off a tigress that attacked him is in a critical condition in hospital having had 100 stitches to the injuries he sustained.

Madhuban Yadav, a resident of Baudhiya Kalan village, was visiting a temple when the tigress attacked him from behind.

Reports said the tigress, which had two of her cubs, attacked Madhuban from behind with her powerful forepaws. The septuagenarian fell to the ground, but rebounded to retrieve the sickle he had and tried to scare the big cat away.

The elderly man fought the tigress for 15 minutes, when he sustained severe injuries to his face, legs, chest and arms.

Despite bleeding from his wounds, Madhuban continued to fight the tigress and succeeded as the beast withdrew.

Locals reached the spot later and transferred Madhuban to the primary health centre, from where he was shifted to the district hospital. As his condition turned critical in the wee hours of Friday, he was brought to Lucknow’s KG Medical University.
