Meeting on caste census report

Social Welfare Minister H Anjaneya on Tuesday said he has convened a meeting on May 26 with the Karnataka State Backward Classes Commission to monitor the progress of the compilation work of the socio-economic survey, commonly known as the caste census.

The caste census was conducted last year under the aegis of the commission, but the report is yet to be released. Speaking to reporters in Bengaluru, Anjaneya also appealed to community associations to wait till the report is made public before passing judgements. Representatives of the Lingayat and Vokkaliga communities on Monday had lashed out at the state government for the manner in which the census was conducted. They had also demanded that government should not publish the findings of the census.
