Dakshina Kannada retains top position in II PU results

In spite of registering a marginal 2.6% decline in the pass percentage over last year’s result, Dakshina Kannada district has topped the list of districts in the second year Pre University examination results.

With this, the district has retained the top position for the last three consecutive years.

The pass percentage in Dakshina Kannada has been 90.48% while it was 93.09% in 2015. In 2014, it was 86.04% and 85.88% in 2013. A total of 31,335 students had appeared for the examination, of which, 28,351 students have passed in Dakshina Kannada district.

IAS dream
Daksha from Alva’s P U College, Moodbidri, has secured 593 out of 600 and has stood second in the state. She shares the rank with Aashik Narayan M from the same college.

Speaking to Deccan Herald, she said she wants to get into civil service and has started preparations from this vacation. She said she studied for five to six hours a day and never attended any coaching classes. Her father Pravinchandra is an entrepreneur in Mangaluru. He runs a computer and training centre for civil service and other competitive examinations and her mother Mallika is a homemaker. Her parents did not pressure her to get good scores while lecturers too extended a good support. She said she expected around 588 marks and never expected a second rank in the state.

Aashik Narayan M, from Alva’s PU College, Moodbidri, another second topper in commerce in the state, spoke to Deccan Herald and said he aims to be a chartered accountant. He studied for about 10 hours in a day and did not take any extra coaching. He hails from Manjeshwar and stayed in college hostel, he said. He said as per the guidance of lecturers, he worked out the question papers of previous years and revised the lessons on day-to-day basis. The hostel atmosphere was convenient for his studies, he said. His father Ganapathy Prasad is the Associate Vice President of JSW Steel in Bellary and his mother Asha Bharathi is an Associate Professor RYM Engineering College in Bellary.

Toppers in DK
Varsha P of Ambika PU College in Puttur has secured 591 marks and has emerged the topper in Dakshina Kannada district in science stream. She has scored full marks in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology, 94 in English and 97 in Kannada. She is the daughter of Ramesh P and Yashodha of Puttur. She studied in a Kannada medium school up to seventh standard. Mother Yashoda said her daughter was good in studies since the beginning and did not opt for any special coaching class.

She has secured Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) scholarship and will pursue her integrated BSc at IISc in Bengaluru.

Vaishnavi Ballal of Experts PU College has scored 590 marks, with 100 in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology and Sanskrit and 90 in English. She wants to follow the foot steps of her father and become a doctor. She is the daughter of Dr Rajesh Ballal and Vasundhara Ballal.

Madhu Jayaprakash Nayak of Canara College has secured 588 marks in science stream. She said she wants to pursue her studies in NITK, Surathkal.

Shiba Catherine of St Agnes College, who has scored 588 marks, said she wants to study MBBS. Sooraj Koorligaya of Experts PU College has scored 588 marks.
