A 23-year-old woman was manhandled by her former boyfriend and his family members near Ulsoor tempo stand on Thursday morning.

The police said that the victim, a resident of Srirampura, was working in a private company in Indiranagar. She was in a live-in relationship with Adibullah Shariff, a resident of KG Halli for around six months. They were residing in Srirampura in a rented house. Shariff was forcing her to marry him. But she used to avoid him by giving various reasons. As things turned ugly, they got separated.

But Shariff was constantly harassing her to marry him. Unable to bear the torture, in April, she approached the KG Halli police and lodged a complaint against Shariff on charges of rape and cheating.

The police were looking for Shariff, who was absconding. In her complaint she stated that on Thursday around 6.30 am, the victim was returning home after finishing her night shift.

As she reached Indiranagar Metro station and noticed Shariff along with his family members, she immediately boarded a bus and alighted near Ulsoor tempo stand. Sharriff followed her and came there too, added the police.

“Shariff and his family members stopped her and asked her to withdraw the case registered against him and also he pestered her to marry him. An argument broke between them, and Shariff and his family members manhandled her. She managed to reach Ulsoor police and registered a complaint against Shariff. We are questioning the victim to obtain information about the incident. Also, the police are looking for Shariff, who is currently absconding,” said a senior police officer.
