'Meditating' 40-year-old man hacked to death

Victim was seen drinking alcohol with his friends

A 40-year-old man doing ‘meditation’ for a month outside his village was found murdered with multiple stab wounds on his body in outer Delhi’s Chawla area on Saturday morning.

The deceased identified as Shiv Kumar was a married man and had four children.Police have registered a case of murder at Chhawla police station, and investigation has been started.

The matter was first noticed when Kumar’s son Chetan came to offer tea to his father in the field where Shiv Kumar had been meditating for the last one month.

“Kumar’s son saw his father’s body lying on the field with blood marks on the soil around it,” said a senior police officer.

For the last one month Kumar had been staying on the field , the police said. The place is next to a crematorium.

"His family members used to bring food for him to the field,” the officer said. Police have found clues from the incident spot which points towards the involvement of more than one person who were known to the deceased.

Kumar had been consuming alcohol on the field where his friends also used to join him for a drink, the police said.


According to sources, Kumar was seen having a drink with his friends during Friday night, and it is suspected that during the meeting he had some argument with them which led to his murder.

“We have started the investigation and have questioned some people in relation for the murder. We are looking the incident from multiple angles and at this stage it would be too premature to come to a conclusion,” said a police officer.

In the preliminary investigation no personal feud of Kumar with anyone had emerged. However, police said that Kumar’s financial condition had not been very sound for the last few months.
