Last Updated 01 June 2016, 17:36 IST

Dakshina Kannada Superintendent of Police Bhushan Gulabrao Borase has decided to convince the junior police personnel, planning to go on a mass leave on June 4 in protest against harassment and lesser pay.

The SP is personally visiting all the police stations in his jurisdiction and holding discussions with the police personnel. The personnel from two police stations in the district have already promised to stay away from the protest.

Speaking to media here on Wednesday, he said there are 15 police stations in his jurisdiction. Several staff members have filed applications seeking leave.

“We have been trying to convince the police constables not to take part in the protest. The department has been striving to fulfill the demands of the police personnel. It is true that the police personnel have a few problems.

“The department has initiated measures to set right the loopholes. It is not right that the police personnel stage a protest demanding the fulfillment of their demands. There are Maoist issues in parts of DK. The police personnel should understand that remaining away from duty will likely affect the law-and-order situation, especially in Maoist affected areas,” the SP added.

He also said that measures have been initiated to provide various facilities to the police personnel in DK district. A sum of Rs 1.68 crore has been released in 2105-16 for the same. As many as 54 police quarters have been repaired. Canteens have been opened to supply food products at a concessional rate to the police personnel, he explained.

The SP said there are problems pertaining to supply of drinking water and underground drainage facilities to the police quarters. “I have tried to solve the problems during my visit to the police stations,” he added.

Udupi
Udupi SP K Annamalai said he has not received applications from the police personnel in any police station in the district seeking leave on June 4. The SP has personally visited each police station in his jurisdiction and discussed the issue with the personnel.

“There are no reports on mass leave applications from the personnel of Coastal Security Police. In fact, there were rumours about Coastal Security Police personnel from Gangolli station seeking leave. However, they have been convinced to come to work,” said a staffer from the Coastal Security Police Force.
