New quarters for customs department staff

Customs Chief Commissioner of Bengaluru Zone Rajiv Bhushan Tiwari said the Central Board of Excise and Customs will identify and digitise the records of land belonging to Customs Department. 

He was speaking at the inauguration of the staff quarters of Customs Commissionerate, Mangaluru, at Datta Nagar in Bikarnakatte here.

Tiwari stressed on the infrastructure development in the department.The Central Public Works Department (CPWD) has sent proposals to the state government requesting for the allocation of land in Mysuru, Mandya and Madikeri to build staff quarters and offices.

Sites in districts
He said the department has four plots in Dakshina Kannada, seven in Udupi and 45 in Uttara Kannada districts. Hence, identification of these piece of land and their records are being given due importance. As the next project, the department will develop the Old Customs House, which has a history of 100 years. 

Demarcation of land will be done and boundary walls will be built around the complex within three months, he added. 

Central Board of Excise and Customs Member (Administration) Vanaja N Sarna called upon the department personnel to plant saplings at their residences and also keep the surroundings clean.

CPWD Bengaluru Chief Engineer R K Soni said  the new staff quarters has 72 residences and each residence has been built at a cost of Rs 18 lakh approximately.
