A group of students staged a protest in front of Larsen and Toubro Ltd Infotech office at Whitefield in the city on Monday. The group of students claimed that though they received their offer letters two years ago, they have not been given a joining date yet.

Sanoop, a member with the ITEC (IT Employees Centre) said several students staged a protest in the morning demanding that their issues be addressed, failing which will they will contemplate a hunger strike.

Saurabh (name changed) told Deccan Herald he received his offer letter in 2014 in a campus placement but did not get the joining date yet. “In 2016 April-March, we were supposed to get our joining dates. Earlier this year, we were told that we will have to take up an assessment test. We were not informed that this had anything to do with the selection. Following this, we were told that we have not qualified for the jobs,” he said.

Students claimed that they have been left in the lurch now. “We have lost two years. Why did they have to keep us waiting for so long? When we go to other interviews, they ask us why we wasted two years. How can we answer them?” he questioned.

Another student Ramesh, who got his offer letter in 2014 December, faces a similar predicament. “In 2016 March, we were asked to attend an assessment test by Himentor. There was no mention in the mail that we had to qualify in this test to be eligible for the job. Those selected in 2015 got joining dates without writing any assessment test. We have lost one-and-a-half years. Now other companies are also shutting their doors on us,” said the MTech graduate who has passed with an 80% aggregate.

When contacted, a company representative refused to comment.
