Tatas give Rs 56 cr to British Royal Society

The Tata group of companies have announced a £5.6 million (around Rs 56 crore) grant to the Royal Society’s University Research Fellowships (URF) in the physical sciences and engineering sectors.

The funding will establish nine new Tata University Research Fellows in the Physical Sciences and Engineering over the next 10 years, with the first Royal Society Tata University Research Fellows due to be appointed in October 2016, a statement from Tata Sons said.

The funding by Tata companies, including Tata Sons, Jaguar Land Rover and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS),  is expected to opportunities to early career scientists to build independent research careers.

“I am confident that the Royal Society Tata University Research Fellows will make an impactful difference by contributing solutions to some of the most pressing challenges the world faces,” Cyrus Mistry, Chairman, Tata Sons, said in a statement.
