A case of honour killing of a minor girl has come to light, a year later.

Puttaraja Shetty and his wife Leelamma of Nadappanahalli had allegedly killed their only daughter Sunitha (15) on January 5, 2015. But, the incident came to light in January 2016 when Superintendent of Police Abhinav Khare received an anonymous petition, suspecting it to be a murder.

The SP said, “The accused confessed to their crime and claimed that they killed the girl as she was in a relationship with a distant relative and had conceived. However, the police could not find out whether the girl was pregnant or not, as post mortem was not conducted when she died last year.”

Khare said, “After killing Sunitha, who was a school dropout, at home, her parents shifted the body to the farm and succeeded in convincing the villagers that she had committed suicide by consuming poison. The parents had placed a poison bottle beside the dead body to convince the villagers. Later, the family members buried the body without informing the police.”

The SP said that only three people were living in the house when the girl was killed. More details will be ascertained only after a detailed investigation.

However, the SP declined to reveal the details of the boy, who was in relationship with Sunitha.

KR Nagar police are investigating the case.
