The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike is white-topping the stretch between the Corporation Circle and Tiffany Circle at a cost of Rs 2.2 crore, which the civic agency claims, will last for at least 30 years.

BBMP Chief Engineer (Major Roads) K T Nagaraj said, “We are laying an M-40 grade concrete layer of an 18 cm thickness. We are also laying cross ducts which will have Bescom and OFC cables under the footpath. However, BWSSB pipelines are not there, making it less vulnerable to water or sewerage related damages.”

The white-topping was planned in view of heavy traffic, which causes maximum damage to the road, especially during the rainy season. Presently, scraping of bitumen to lay the concrete layer is going on. For side ducts, the Palike intends remodeling of footpath, which includes desilting of drains. The contractor will be responsible for any repair work if any damage occurs to the road.

Palike had done white-topping on Tumakuru, Mysuru and Kanakapura Road, Metro Rail corridors, Outer Ring Road and Peripheral Ring Road, Hosur Road underpass and Kodava Samaja Road. However, white-topping has not been done for eight TenderSURE roads. However, the upcoming 50 new TenderSURE roads will have whitetopping, minimising the maintenance cost, added Nagaraj.
