Pre-monsoon showers cool Mumbai

Last Updated 11 June 2016, 19:26 IST
Pre-monsoon showers in Mumbai and its suburbs may have brought relief to the city, but commuters in the local trains faced inconvenience due to a technical snag caused by the rain.

Around half a dozen cases of uprooting of trees were reported in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, as the IMD’s Regional Meteorological Observatory predicts more rain on Sunday and Monday.

“Sky is likely to be generally cloudy. Light rain or showers likely to occur in parts of city and suburbs. Maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 35 degree C and 29 degree C respectively,” the weatherman said in its forecast. “Monsoon 2016 would reach Mumbai in the next few days,” said Skymet Weather. “At present, monsoon has already covered parts of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh and has been advancing at a rapid pace.”

A technical snag on the harbour line of the Central Railway that delayed trains was normalised later in the noon.

“Frequent traction tripping after rains at many places have cumulatively caused the morning peak to run late. Inconvenience regretted,” the Western Railway tweeted about the snag. “I hear thunder, I hear thunder... Finally it rains in Mumbai..,” tweeted Madhuri Dixit-Nene, welcoming the rains, while actor-model Dino Morea intoned: “Yeh toh baarish ho rahi hai, it's raining its raining.”
