Integrated app to help you lodge civic complaints

The Bangalore Political Action Committee (BPAC) has come out with a mobile phone application called ‘Spotter’ for Bengalurians to lodge civic complaints.

The app integrates the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) and Bescom. Complaints lodged on ‘Spotter’ will automatically reach the department concerned and thence to the engineer concerned.

The app is currently available for Android and can be downloaded from Google Play. Efforts are afoot to make it available for iPhones and Windows phones.

The Geographical Information System-based application has different categories to lodge complaints such as garbage, health, construction, potholes, drainage, footpath, animal control, water supply and electricity. People can upload their civic problems along with pictures, which will reach the designated officer in any of the three government agencies.

The managing trustee of BPAC, Revathy Ashok, told reporters, “The GIS will show the location from where the picture was taken. This will help the officials to identify the place and fix the problem.”

To a question, Revathy Ashok said efforts would be made to link the app with the BBMP’s road history, which was in the final stage of implementation.
