Vani poised to win fifth title

Last Updated 23 June 2016, 18:52 IST

Favourite Vani Kapoor stepped on the accelerator in brutal fashion to put herself in a commanding position to secure a fifth title of the season in the ninth leg of the Hero Women’s Pro Golf Tour on Thursday.

In a repeat of last week, the young Delhiite blasted a superb four-under 67 at the Clover Greens to take a whopping 9-shot lead. Vani’s total stands at 137 after two rounds.

Gauri Monga shot a second successive 73 to rise to second spot while Neha Tripathi (71), Ankita Tiwana (73), Saaniya Sharma (73), Shweta Galande (74) and Amandeep Drall (75) shared the third spot at 147.

Vani, the in-form player on the domestic tour for the last two seasons, was once again in sizzling form. She fired back-to-back birdies on the opening two holes as her rivals began to feel the heat. Vani could have gone better than the 67 but sadly the putts didn’t fall as intended. She, however, kept attacking the pins before birdieing the 15th and 17th holes.

Leading scores (after 36 holes): 137: Vani Kapoor (70, 67); 146: Gauri Monga (73, 73); 147: Neha Tripathi (76, 71), Ankita Tiwana (74, 73), Saaniya Sharma (74, 73), Shweta Galande (73, 74), Amandeep Drall (72, 75).
