'Performing in Hollywood has been a milestone'

Voted among the top five acoustic acts in Delhi, singer and songwriter Jordan Johnson was introduced to music at the age of 8. Someone who has led a “simple life” since childhood, Johnson says he has grown up to be a self-taught musician.

With his inclination towards acoustic guitar and vocals, the 20-year-old has got the privilege of performing in Hollywood, England, Ireland, South Africa, Nepal, Thailand, New Zealand, and Singapore.

Among these international destinations, he says performing in Hollywood has been the “milestone of his career”.

“I played in a well-known club that has hosted the likes of Adele, Ed Sheeran, Chris Martin and John Mayer. It gave me a different perspective towards life. Whatever I want now, is just a stone throw away! All it requires is hard work and lots of enthusiasm,” he tells Metrolife.

On being asked about the genre he plays, the budding artiste says, “With my inclination towards playing acoustic guitar and vocals, I play whatever comes out of me and that shapes the genre in which I play.”

“I love swaying between making acoustic music to trap or downtempo or electronic to full-blown R & B. My music keeps changing with me I feel,” adds Johnson.

The Mussourie-based singer now plays in various cafes and restaurants in Delhi. He launched his solo debut album Distance and a Kiss in 2015, which was followed by Pieces of Mind.

“Music has always been around me. Whether it was my sisters playing the guitar and piano, or my mother singing and playing piano or my father playing guitar, there was a lot of music in the house. Even if we weren’t playing any instruments, there would be music playing in the background. From classical music to French rap or heavy metal, music has always been an essential part of my family,” he says.

He now looks forward to recording an Extended Play (EP) in the US. “I’ll be working on it next month followed by a smaller electronic project. I’ve also been working on. After I get back from the US, I’ll be focusing on an India tour to promote the project,” he says.
Jordan Johnson will perform today at Depot 29, 8.45 pm onwards.
