NIA produces 5 ISIS sympathisers in court

A local court on Thursday remanded five people suspected to have ISIS links in judicial custody till July 14. They were later taken to Chanchalguda central jail here.

The five youths were arrested by National Investigation Agency (NIA) sleuths in a joint operation with the Telangana police on Wednesday. The court will hear arguments on the custody petition filed by the NIA on Friday.

The central agency, which has quizzed 11 suspects since Wednesday, released six of them after counseling them and their family members. The five include Mohammad Ibrahim Yazdani (29), his brother Mohammad Ilyas Yazdani (24), Abdulla Bin Ahmad Almodi alias Fahad (30), Mohammad Irfan alias Yaqaus (27) and Habeeb Mohammad (32). They have been booked under various sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and Explosives Act.

During interrogation, the suspects claimed to have told the police that they had planned strikes in three locations, including shopping malls and places of worship, on Saturday.
