Writer Devanur Mahadeva on Sunday said that there is a need to strengthen the people’s movement to usher in positive changes in the society.

Speaking to reporters on the conference ‘Bharata mattu Karnataka prastuta sandharba-jana paryayada sadhyathegalu’ to be held at Patil Puttappa Sabha Bhavan in Dharwad on July 9 and 10, the veteran Kannada writer said that people’s movements have taken back seat in recent years.

Organisations, legislators, political leaders are playing to the tunes of corporates, he lamented. “The elected representatives should look beyond their caste. The legislators are not bringing people-friendly legislations. Every caste has good and progressive thinkers but they are being ignored by the vested interests. Socialists must be brought in the front line to create a better society,” said the writer.
