She used to call herself a “geeky tomboy” back in school. Yet, the constant yearning for a creative outlet helped Shobhita Dhulipala bag her first stint as an actress  in Anurag Kashyap’s Raman Raghav 2.0.

Former Miss India Earth 2013, 23-year-old Dhulipala explains herself as “someone who would backpack and travel”.

“Initially, I didn’t know how to speak Hindi. After modelling, I realised I wanted to take up acting, but I wanted to polish my skills before that,” says Dhulipala who hails from Visakhapatnam.

She explains that being a part of the movie gave a sense of “homecoming” to her. Her audition scene, which she explains was an argument scene between her character and Raghav (Vicky Kaushal), was very intense and getting selected within 45 minutes of the audition wasn’t something that she expected.

“The relationship which my character (Smrutika) had with Raghav was layered. The most challenging part was to get in and out of the character throughout the 21 days of shooting,” Dhulipala tells Metrolife.

On working with her “dream director” — Kashyap and starring opposite Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Kaushal, she adds, “I feel very fortunate to work with such talented people. Their passion towards their work constantly motivated me to give my 100 per cent.”

The movie, based on the sensational serial killer psycho Raman, was premiered during the Director’s Fortnight Segment in Cannes Film Festival.

“Personally, the film has helped me in a lot of character building. I have
become more confident now,” she adds.

While there are rumours doing the round that she will be seen in Shekhar
Kapur’s sci-fi thriller Paani, she refuses to comment on it.

“There are a couple of projects that I’m working on. Let’s see how they turn out to be,” says Dhulipala.
