BJP state unit President B S Yeddyurappa alleged that the Congress-led State government is conspiring to hide the truth behind the suicide of DySPs Kallappa Handibag and M K Ganapathi.

Yeddyurappa was addressing a protest rally demanding an impartial probe into the suicide of the DySPs, organised by the BJP in Chikkamagaluru on Saturday.

Yeddyurappa said, “The law and order in the State has collapsed. If officials failed to work cautiously, then they would face the same fate as that of Kallappa and Ganapathi.”

The state unit president said “The Home Minister has lied in the session that M K Ganapathi committed suicide following problems on the domestic front. Corruption charges were levelled against Kallappa Handibag, who in turn committed suicide.”

He accused that the FIR in the Kallappa incident was filed in a hurry. He also stated that even after having a dying declaration in the DySP Ganapathi incident, no FIR has been filed so far.

Yeddyurappa informed that he has written to the Union Home Minister demanding a CBI probe into the suicide of the DySPs. He said that the Home Minister in turn has collected information over the incident from the State home department. “The issue will be raised in the Parliament Session which will commence from July 18,” the BJP state president added.

“DySP Anupama Shenoy was forced to tender resignation after facing harassment. PSI Mallikarjuna Bande and IAS officer D K Ravi also failed to get justice,” blamed Yeddyurappa. He also congratulated the people of Chikkamagaluru district for observing a bandh demanding justice to the family of the DySPs.

MLA  and BJP State unit secretary C T Ravi said “after a series of suicide by farmers, the State is now witnessing suicide by police officials. Honest officers are not allowed to discharge their duties by the State government.”

Ravi accused the Chief Minister of protecting the accused. He demanded that the cases should be handed over to the CBI. The protesters took out a procession from Gayathri Kalyana Mantapa in Kempanahalli and passed through KEB Circe, Basavanahalli main road, Hanumanthappa Circle and M G Road.
