Azad to PM: What is Delhi waiting for?

Last Updated 06 August 2016, 21:07 IST

Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad on Saturday accused the Centre of failing to show any urgency in dealing with the prevailing unrest.

Azad, a former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying the government has failed to deal with the situation and has not taken political parties into confidence, “as was demanded during the discussion in Parliament”.

“There seems to be no recognition of the situation at the national level…earlier, we used to recognise the political nature of the problem. An all-party delegation from Parliament visited Kashmir during the 2010 unrest and met a cross-section of people. Subsequently, the interlocutors were appointed,” he said.

“Today, there seems to be no such effort on part of the Centre. What is New Delhi waiting for?” he asked.
