Joseph Sirosh, Corporate vice president of Data Group at Microsoft, said that cloud-based services for machine learning and data sciences (ML&DS), together with the Internet of Things (IoT) have the potential to revolutionise every aspect of human life.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the two-day ML&DS conference in Bengaluru on Monday, Sirosh said ML&DS has the potentials to influence every aspect of life from sports, healthcare and education and even government.

“At Microsoft, our ambition is to democratise the access to these technologies, so that software developers can build, innovate and transform the world with them. We also explores the possibilities to develop apps and services with machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI),” he said.

Sirosh said the Cortana Intelligence Suite, as part of its Azure cloud platform, has the capacity to harness the potential of AI.

The conference hosts 600 participants, including data scientists, students, developers, government elites, start-ups, cricketers and Microsoft experts. The company finds tremendous possibilities to partner with digital transformation happening in India, Microsoft India (R&D) Managing Director Anil Bhansali told DH.

“Our software and cloud services will help the government to achieve efficiencies in the field of agriculture, healthcare and education. We extend the benefits of machine learning to the sports fraternity by offering a platform for software developers in India, to create solutions that could change the approach to sports administration and sports management,” he said.

Bhansali said the company also finds huge opportunity in the government business vertical, where lots of legacy technologies have to be changed.

“We are associated with Andhra Pradesh government in analysing the dropout cases. Lot of state governments are going through transformational journey as part of their citizen service delivery. Cloud and data analytics is important part of these initiatives,” he said.
