Students of K K English High School in the city on Thursday sent postcards to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking a better environment in Bengaluru.

The school, in association with Whitefield Rising, started a campaign seeking protection of the ecology in the area. As part of the campaign, over 1,000 students wrote to Modi seeking his intervention. “Clean air, clean water and clean environment is our right. Protect our rivers and lakes from pollution and encroachment. We need our Varthur Lake and Bangalore for our future. We need your intervention in protecting it,” the letters read.

Jagadish Reddy Nagappa, a volunteer with Whitefield Rising told Deccan Herald  that even as there have been innumerable initiatives to save Varthur Lake, not much is happening on the ground. “We only see official reports being prepared, but no action is taking place. The ecology is getting polluted. To protect this, we started engaging school children as well,” he added.
