Legislative Assembly Speaker K B Koliwad on Friday said the committee on lake encroachments will soon take a decision on the issue of encroachment of Byrasandra lake in Bengaluru.

The committee has received a copy of the report by the Karnataka High Court-appointed commissioner. The commissioner has conducted re-survey of the lake and clearly identified all encroachments.

Many companies have encroached upon the lake. The committee is currently examining the report and it will take an appropriate decision soon, Koliwad, who is also heading the committee, said.

The commissioner has confirmed the encroachment on Byasandra lake and identified 3.95 acres of encroachment. The total area of the lake has been identified as 12.21 acres, including the encroached portion, according to the report.

The lake is located on survey number of 112 of Byrasandra village of Varthur hobli in Bengaluru East taluk. The revenue authorities of Bengaluru Urban district have been waiting for direction from the lake committee to take further action.

The revenue authorities have already reclaimed about one acre of vacant lake land. They are awaiting directions from the committee on recovering the encroached portion where buildings have been constructed.
