Man killed as SUV hits e-rickshaw

A 50-year-old man sleeping on an e-rickshaw died after being hit by an SUV in North East Delhi’s GTB Enclave area. The driver has been arrested. The accident happened on Thursday night when Mohammad Yasin, 45, who used to repair cycle and rickshaw for a living was sleeping on an e-rickshaw parked just outside his shop near Salim Masjid in Damodar Park.

“A Mahindra Quanto coming from MS Park Metro station hit the e-rickshaw and Yasin sustained injuries on his head and shoulder,” said a police officer. The driver was caught by the people present on spot and was handed over to the police.

Yasin’s elder son who had come to see his father at his shop along with passers-by took him to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital where he died during the operation, police said. Yasin used to live in a jhuggi in Kheda village with his wife, three sons and two daughters. The driver Gaurav Gupta is a resident of Shahdra and is a businessman. A case has been registered in GTB Enclave police station.
