Elderly man jumps in front of train, ends life

A 62-year-old man committed suicide by jumping in front of a train near Kengeri on Tuesday .

The deceased has been identified as V Gururaj of Srigandhakaval in Nagarabhavi. He was a retired section superintendent officer in Director General and Inspector General of Police office.

Around 10.45 am, he was found walking near the railway track in Kengeri. He noticed a train approaching and jumped in front of it. Passersby found him lying in a pool of blood. They informed the city railway police, who visited the spot and shifted the body to a nearby private hospital, where he was declared brought dead, said the police.

Ganesh, son of Gururaj, told Deccan Herald, “He officially retired in 2013 but his work tenure was extended for another two years. In December 2015, he completed his tenure and was staying at home. On Tuesday, he finished his breakfast and told that he would go to the bank. After a couple of hours, we got the information that he committed suicide. We are not aware of the reason for his drastic step.”  City railway police have registered a case.
