To buy Enfield for son, maid asks kids to burgle cricketer's house

A maid servant helped her children steal gold and diamond valuables from a Karnataka Ranji player’s house near Kannika Parmeshwari temple in Sanjayanagar on August 20.

They were arrested by the Sanjayanagar police on Tuesday. The maid later told police that she wanted money to buy her son a Bullet motorbike.

The arrested are Gowri, 45, her daughter Deepa, 19 and her son Yogesh 20. They are all residents of Amarjyothi Layout in Sanjaynagar. Police have recovered 368 gm gold and diamond valuables, worth Rs 10 lakh.

The police said Gowri was working as a domestic help in cricketer R Samarth’s house. On August, 20, Samarth’s mother Nagarathna went to visit her daughter, who lives in the same area. She asked Gowri to accompany her. Gowri asked her children to go to Nagarathna’s house and take away the valuables, as nobody was at home. When Nagarathna returned home, she found the doors of the cupboard open. When she went to close them, she found the gold and diamond valuables besides Rs 12,500 cash, missing. She informed the Sanjaynagar police, who registered a case.

“The police questioned Gowri, who confessed to the crime. She revealed that a month ago, she had made away with the house key. Nagarathna assumed that the keys were lost and was using the remaining two sets of keys. On August 8, when no one was at home, the maid asked her children to steal valuables kept at a particular place in the house. Gowri also mentioned that she was in need of money to buy her son an Enfield bike and save money for her daughter’s wedding,” said a senior police officer.
