Girl students here have been availing of training in karate for self protection, along with formal education.
The students are seen taking part enthusiastically in karate training, at the Government High School at Suntikoppa.
As per the government orders, more than 150 students are being imparted training in karate. The girl students are being prepared to face tough situations like attack by miscreants. Karate trainer B M Mani Mukesh has been training the students everyday for one hour.
Class nine student Fathima Sura said that there had been an atmosphere of fear when they walked to the school and came back from the school. “But, with karate training, the fear has been eliminated. Also, karate learning has motivated us to take part in sports activities,” she said.
The parents of the students have, meanwhile, requested the Department of Public Instruction to provide sports equipment too, for the school.
