Charge sheet against Cong MLA in bar brawl case

Last Updated 26 August 2016, 20:29 IST
The Central Crime Branch (CCB) has filed a charge sheet against Congress MLA Vijayanand Kashappanavar and rowdy sheeter Somashekar Gowda for attacking police constables at Skyye Bar in UB City on July 2, 2014.

A senior police officer said, “The charge sheet was filed before the First Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) court on August 11. The charge sheet contains 200 pages with statements recorded from 14 witnesses which include pub employees and complainants. Somashekar Gowda, a rowdy sheeter, is the first accused, while Kashappanavar is the second accused in the case.”

“The CCTV footage obtained from the bar was sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) in Hyderabad, which concluded that the videos were not tampered. On examination, the videos clearly showed that the duo manhandled the two police constables, who were on duty. Somashekar hits the constables while Kashappanavar, who was standing behind him, pushes them and even hurls profanities at both of them. The IPC sections mentioned in the charge sheet cannot be revealed now,” he added.

On the night of July 1, the MLA had been to Skyye Bar with his family and friends. In the early hours, two constables attached to the Cubbon Park police station, Kiran Kumar and Prashanth Nayak, went to the bar to enforce the night deadline. A tiff broke out between the constables and the MLA during which the policemen were manhandled.
