Last Updated 27 August 2016, 20:44 IST

The CID sleuths probing DySP M K Ganapathi’s suicide case on Saturday questioned senior IPS officers AM Prasad and Pronab Mohanty.

During the questioning, Prasad denied charges levelled against him by Ganapathi. “Ganapathi had served under me only for three months. I had never tortured him. I had dome my duty as a senior officer as per the law whenever Ganapathi had failed to discharge his official duties ” a CID officer quoted Prasad as saying.

“I was serving as IGP (Western Range) in 2008. Ganapathi was the Kadri police station inspector. There was a protest in Kadri. He had ordered a lathi charge without seeking permission from the SP and the IGP. The local residents had observed Mangaluru bandh against the lathi charge. Hence, I had ordered a departmental enquiry against Ganapathi for ordering lathi charge without taking permission from senior officer,” Prasad told the CID sleuths.

“ I did not have any contact with Ganapathi after my transfer. He had faced many setbacks because of the departmental enquiry. He was under the impression that I was responsible for those setbacks,” the officer quoted Prasad as saying.

During the questioning Mohanty reiterated the claims that he had made on August 12. “I had met Ganapathi only thrice. He had not worked under me,” a CID officer quoted Mohanty as saying.

“The Home Department had addressed a letter to the Lokayukta on February 14. The Home Department wanted to know if there were any pending enquiries against Ganapathi with the Lokayukta. I had answered that there were no pending enquiries against Ganapathi. I had also answered that I did not know about pending enquiries against Ganapathi in other police wings,” the officer quoted Mohanty as saying. Mohanty claimed that he would have troubled Ganapathi had if he any grudge against him (Ganapathi).
