Two men sustained injuries when a mud wall collapsed on them while they were cleaning a drain near Milann hospital near 24th Main Road in JP Nagar Second Phase on Wednesday evening.

The police said the injured Venkatesh was rescued and shifted to a hospital while the another person, who sustained minor injuries, is yet to be identified. On Tuesday evening, both were cleaning the drain, which is about seven-foot deep and the mud wall, along with a few huge stones, collapsed on them. The members of the public who noticed them pulled out one person and shifted him to a private hospital while they could not pull out Venkatesh, who was stuck in the mud and debris. They alerted the JP Nagar police.

The Fire and Emergency Services Department personnel, after receiving the information from the police, carried out a three-hour operation to rescue Venkatesh, the police added.

The fire personnel said the BBMP had dug up the drain to lay water pipes. Due to heavy rain on Tuesday night, the drain was filled with water and Venkatesh and his friend, both contract workers, were asked to remove the water. The mud wall had become lose due to wetness and collapsed. Venkatesh was covered with mud till his head while his friend was covered till the hip.

The passersby rescued Venkatesh’s friend while they could not help Venkatesh. Three huge stones had fallen along with the mud. “We had to remove the stones and clear the mud to rescue Venkatesh. Fortunately, both of them sustained minor injuries and were shifted to a hospital,” they said. A case has been registered in JP Nagar police station.
