Regular eye check-up for diabetics must: Doctor

Speaking after inaugurating the retinopathy camp for diabetics organised by Lions, Shankar Eye Hospital, ISRO and BGS High School here on Sunday, he said that regular eye check-ups would help in containing the irreparable eye damage in diabetic patients.

The patients diagnosed with diabetic retinopathy have to undergo laser treatment, he said.
K H Venkatappa, the regional governor of Lions, said that patients diagnosed with retinapathi will be given laser treatment free of cost at hospitals in Bangalore and Chennai.

The treatment costs about Rs 40,000 and the Lions Club would bear the expense, he said.
A team of doctors from Shankar eye Hospital comprising Dr A Kumar, Adimurthy, Shashikumar, Kodandaram and others examined as many as 230 diabetics at the camp.
