Kempegowda study centre at Jnanabharathi

 A study centre to highlight the life and works of the founder of Bengaluru, Kempegowda, will be set up on the Jnanabharathi campus soon.

BBMP joint commissioner of BBMP's Rajarajeshwari Nagar zone, Veerabhadrappa, and Bangalore University (BU) vice chancellor B Thimme Gowda, signed a memorandum of understanding on Friday in the presence of Mayor B N Manjunath Reddy and commissioner N Manjunatha Prasad. The centre will come up on three acres of land near the administrative building of the BU. BBMP has agreed to invest Rs 10 crore to set up the centre.

The centre will also have a museum where artifacts and literature pertaining to the Kempegowda period will be displayed. Studies and research will be carried out to bring out the contribution of Kempegowda, who founded Bengaluru 500 years ago. Speaking on the occasion, Gowda said the study centre will carry out research, especially in places where there are possibilities of unearthing details pertaining to Kempegowda such as Kempapura in Magadi taluk. Kempegowda’s tomb is located in Kempapura.
