Three persons arrested in rowdy murder case

Trio murdered history-sheeter Vijay Kumar over old enmity

With the arrest of three persons, Mandi police have cracked the murder case of a history-sheeter, Vijay Kumar, who was killed in the city on August 29. The police have arrested M S Avinash (27) of Vijayashreepura; E Swamy (34), a resident of Paduvarahalli and Mallesh (27), a resident of Vijayanagar in the city from Mandya on Thursday. According to City Police Commissioner B Dayananda, the accused had killed Vijay over personal vengeance.

The commissioner said, the trio have confessed to the crime during investigation. They have revealed that they had an old enmity and had clashed with Vijay over buying them alcohol, and thus eliminated Vjiay by crushing his head with a boulder near Akshaya Bar on Sayyaji Rao Road in the wee hours of August 29.

Following the incident, the commissioner had formed a team led by Mandi Police Inspector Laxmikanth K Talawar, Sub-Inspector Basava- raju and staff Chandregowda, Shankar, Harish and Rajendra. The team arrested the suspects from Mandya bus stand at 8.30 pm.

The commissioner said, Avinash and Swamy are habitual offenders and they are facing various charges in different police stations. While Saraswathipuram police in the city had booked Swamy in a murder and public disturbance cases, Mandya Rural police had booked Avinash for a clash with the police.

It may be mentioned that Vijay Kumar, also a history-sheeter in Jayalakshmipuram police station from 2009, was involved in 10 criminal cases, including a murder. He was also an aide of Devendra (Devu), who was murdered four months back. Vijay was accused in Kariyappa murder case. He had killed Kariyappa near Bisilumaramma Temple in T K Layout in 2010.

According to the police, Vijay was working in a shamiyana shop of his relative in Paduvarahalli and he used to spend most of his time there. Vijay was in the area till 11.30 pm with his friends on Sunday. He left for home in Vijayashreepura at 12 midnight. After he reached home, one of his friends called Vijay and asked him to come near the Old RMC.
