Some schools declare holiday today

Bengaluru Urban DC V Shankar has said that schools and colleges will be open and function normally in the city on Wednesday.

Some schools, however, have declared a holiday to prevent inconvenience to students. Bishop Cotton Boys' School and Bishop Cotton Girls’ School will remain closed as a precautionary measure. Siddaganga Public School in Chandra Layout and Sri Aurobindo Memorial School in Banashankari will also remain closed. All branches of National Public School will remain closed on the occasion of Onam.

Some schools, such as Delhi Public School (DPS) have decided to remain open. Except for DPS (South), which already had a study holiday scheduled, all other branches of the school will function normally.

Meanwhile, Associated Managements of Private Schools In Karnataka (KAMS) has told its member schools declare a holiday in the interest of children’s safety. “Why has the government made such a hasty decision? Even before relaxing the curfew, they have declared that tomorrow will be a working day. Can they assure the safety of students?” KAMS general secretary Shashi Kumar questioned. He has written an e-mail to the city police commisioner seeking clarification on how the managements can operate schools when Section 144 and curfew have not been lifted.

City Police Commissioner N S Megharik has said that the police will take necessary steps to ensure students’ safety.
