Six monkeys found dead

It is said that monkey menace has been increasing in Sampaje, Jodupala region recently and packs of monkeys have been destroying coconut, areca and other crops.

The villagers had requested the forest officials to take steps to capture the monkeys and do the needful but the officials said that it would be a difficult and a Herculean task.

The Forest officials now suspect that the monkeys must have been killed by the local plantation owners and farmers to get rid of them.

Based on a complaint filed by a villagers, officials visited Katakere village and found as many as five dead monkeys. One monkey which was battling for life died on the way to hospital.
Later carcass of the monkeys was buried after post mortem. The reports say that the monkeys have not been poisoned, instead they must have been killed by hitting on the head using a club.

A team has been formed to hold an inquiry into the case, said ACF Vijay Kumar.
