Raghu Dixit, Javed Ali to add zing to Yuva Dasara

‘Yuva Sambrahama’ and ‘Yuva Dasara’ will be the major attractions for youths from September 23 to October 9, this Dasara.

Addressing a press conference, here on Saturday, Dasara Samiti Deputy Special Officer and also Mysuru Superintendent of Police (SP) Ravi D Channannavar said, while Yuva

Sambrahama is scheduled between September 23 and 28 at the Open Air Theatre of Manasagangotri, Yuva Dasara will be held from October 3 to 9 at the grounds in front of the Maharaja’s College in the city.

The SP said, “The six-day Yuva Sambrahama will be scheduled between 6 pm and 10 pm on all the days and more than 100 groups of students from various colleges and universities will be performing a variety of cultural programmes.”

“The seven-day, Yuva Dasara will commence from October 3 and the event will be between 6 pm and 7.30 pm everyday and the best teams in Yuva Sambrahama will perform in Yuva Dasara. Film stars will be attending the inaugural and valedictory ceremony of the event,” said Channannavar.

Stars performance

Playback singers like Benny Dayal, Raghu Dixit, Shalmali Kholgade and Javed Ali will perform on October 3, 4, 5 and 7 respectively. On October 9, a music troupe from
Sandalwood film industry will present a show, he said.

Channannavar said, “The committee has decided to scale down the events compared to previous years, due to the ongoing water crisis in the state. This time, the sub-committee would spend Rs 1.5 crore on the events. In 2013 and 14, Rs 2.13 crore and Rs 2.43 crore were spent respectively. There were no cultural events in 2015 as the Dasara celebration was a low-key affair as the state was reeling under drought.”

Water conservation theme

The SP said, the sub-committee has asked the participating teams to concentrate on the theme ‘Water Conservation’. Yuva Dasara sub-committee members M R Rajesh, M N Nataraj and G S Somashekar were present.
