In the backdrop of a deadly terror attack, a high level security review meeting was held at Raj Bhavan here on Sunday to review the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir.

Officials said Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra observed that in the background of the Poonch and Uri terror attacks, it was of crucial importance to enhance surveillance on the security of vital civil and military establishments in the state.

A Raj Bhavan spokesperson said the governor recalled his directions earlier this year, after the Pathankot terror attack, for a multi-agency security audit being carried out by security forces and other agencies concerned to identify and fill up every existing gap for ensuring an effective and prompt counter terror response on all fronts.

“During the discussions, the Army and police officers reported the actions already taken and those underway for safeguarding important establishments and vital installations,” he said.

Vohra and Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti stressed the need for cohesive action for enforcing a constant vigil on the frontiers, stepping up counter terrorism operations and effectively maintaining internal security.

Prompt response

The governor and the chief minister also reiterated the need for very close coordination to be maintained among all the departments and agencies for ensuring prompt responses to ensure safety and security of the civil population.

The meeting also discussed various important issues relating to the effective enforcement of the counter infiltration and counter terrorism grids along the International Border and Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir regions.

The governor and chief minister also appealed to the people of the state to maintain sustained vigilance to avert any fresh attempt by inimical elements to disturb the security environment in Kashmir.
