Arms recovered in Agumbe forest

Police act on clue by naxal couple

The police recovered two 9 mm carbines without barrels, 28 live cartridges of 8 mm rifle, 129 live cartridges of 7.62 mm rifle, 83 live cartridges of .303 rifle, 86 gelatin sticks, 200 detonators, a telephone instrument, Compact Discs  and Maoist literature.

Suresh Naik of Bhagavatikere village in Bhadravati taluk and Saroja of Horale, Chikmagalur district, were arrested at Bheemasandra, Tumkur district on May 29.
Director General of Police Ajai Kumar Singh told reporters here on Monday that they were part of the naxal group which torched a Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation  bus in Tallurangadi near Agumbe on July 1.

He also said that Saroja was wanted in eight cases and Suresh Naik in three cases. A special team was tracking their movements from the past three months.

He distributed cash reward to the staff who took part in the operation. A sum of Rs four lakh will be distributed among the three informants, Director General of Police Ajai Kumar Singh said.
