A two-wheeler rider was killed on the spot in an accident near Rajarajeshwari arch on Mysuru Road on Thursday morning.

The deceased is identified as Varun Gowda, 23, a welder from Nayandahalli. He was riding to his workplace when the accident occurred around 8.30 am, said the police.

A few local residents claimed that Gowda lost balance while trying to avoid a pothole near the arch and fell down. He fell under the rear wheel of a private bus that was heading towards Ramanagaram. They alleged that the pothole had resulted in the accident.

Police inspector Niranjan Gowda told DH: “We inspected the accident spot. Gowda had fallen down before he had reached the pothole. Three other bikes had moved past the pothole seconds before Gowda fell down. He was not wearing helmet. He sustained head injuries and died on the spot.”

The bus driver drove away after the accident. The police are analysing CCTV footage of the area to establish the identity of the bus and its driver, the inspector said.
