Now, an app-based treasure hunt to explore Cubbon Park monuments

If you are looking for a fun way to explore Cubbon Park’s heritage structures and monuments, then 'Sparrowz Cubbon Treasure Hunt' activity is the one to take part in.

This 90-minute treasure hunt clue gaming can be played with the mobile application `Sparrowz.’ Developed by a tech start-up, Sparrowz, the app has been put to use at two editions of treasure hunt activity at Cubbon Park where more than 100 participants took part.

"The iOS and Android app is designed to test one’s spatial awareness and the game routes are specially curated to take one to all the best corners of Cubbon Park. This is probably the first time ever an app is being used for a treasure hunt events in India," said Karthik Krishnan, co-founder, Sparrowz.

Explaining how it works,  Krishnan said: “To be part of the event, participants need to register and download the app. The passwords are later mailed to them. They can solve the clues and play the game only on reaching the venue.”

The app developers maintained that during the game, clues are given which could be simple or tough through the app. “The participants have to find the place, take images, perform action, get the next clue, repeat and demonstrate mastery,’’ said Saptarshi, another co-founder.

The participants can play single or in teams of two or four. “All one needs to play the game is a smartphone with enough battery life. The total distance they need to walk is 3.5 km over the time to find clues, at Cubbon Park,” added Saptarshi.

Once downloaded, the game will consume almost no data during the game play and also if ones wants to add other landmarks to one’s app-based treasure hunt.

The third edition of 'Sparrowz Cubbon Trail'  will take place on December 4 and the three-hour game will start at 8 am. For details, one can visit the Facebook page, 'Sparrowz cubbon adventure.'
