App-based cab operators' kiosks at Metro stations soon

Last Updated 05 December 2016, 21:24 IST
Booking a cab at 30 Metro stations will be easier soon. Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) has proposed to provide kiosks for the app-based cab (taxi) services at the stations shortly. This is part of their initiative to ensure first and last mile connectivity to the commuters. At present, the BMTC operates feeder route services while BMRCL has also introduced bike-hiring system at five Metro stations.

Setting up of kiosks at Metro stations will help commuters book cabs without the help of mobile applications. Besides, it will also remove traffic bottlenecks outside the station. At present, cabs waiting for passengers often obstruct traffic. Similar kiosks are already operational in Krantiveera Sangolli Rayanna Railway Station, Bengaluru City and Kempegowda International Airport.

On Monday, BMRCL floated tenders for 30 stations. The last date to submit the tender documents is on or before Jan 5, 2017. The successful bidder will be permitted to set up two kiosks close to the exit-entry gates of stations and the kiosk will be generally located at the paid area. App-based cab operators will be permitted to devise their application software and revenue model that is best suited for commuters,” the tender document stated.
