Kodava Mela from tomorrow

Bacharaniyanda Appanna to inaugurate the cultural festival

Addressing a press meet here on Wednesday, Academy President Rani Machaiah said, Kodava Samaja President Cheppudeera Ponnappa will hoist the flag at 10 am. Kodava Sahithya Academy former president Bacharaniyanda Appanna will inaugurate the mela.

Akhila Kodava Samaja President Mathanda C Monnappa, Kembatti Samaja President Chattakuttada Appacchu, Deputy Commissioner K H Ashwathanarayana Gowda, Kannada and Culture department Director Manu Baligar will be the chief guests.  Academy member Korakuttira Sara Changappa said as part of the programme, various cultural programmes have been arranged for the school and college students.

A procession will be held from Ponnampet Government PU College to Kodava Samaja. The procession will have ‘Bhoothakola,’ ‘Kudiyara Thoppukottpat,’ ‘Bhoothathere,’ ‘Ajjappa There,’ ‘Panikara There,’ ‘Dudikott,’ ‘Kapala Kali,’ ‘Ummathat,’ ‘Kolat,’ ‘Bolakat.’

The estimated cost of the mela is Rs 5 lakh. The expenditure of the mela will be borne by the Academy itself, she added.  The Kodava Language, literature and culture will be attended by theatre artist Addanda Kariappa, lecturer Dr Theethira Rekha Vasanth, Mangalore University professor Dr Kodeera Lokesh. ‘Vishwamanava Dina’ will be released on the occasion.

Valedictory

The valedictory of the mela will be attended by Tourism Minister Janardhan Reddy, MLA M P Appacchuranjan, MLC M C Nanaiah, University of Agriculture VC Dr P G Changappa and others.

Theatre artiste Anitha Kariappa, litterateur Nagesh Kaloor, folk artist Panikara Ganesh Thimmaiah will be felicitated on the occasion. Academy book award for 2010 will be given to ‘Kaagadathra Poo’ by Koopadeera Sundari Machaiah and ‘Avvana Thudchith’ by Naliyammanda Kasturi Govindammayya.
