Last Updated 17 March 2010, 17:47 IST

Replying to a discussion on drinking water shortage in the Legislative Assembly on Wednesday, Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister Jagadish Shettar said the proposed board would be on the lines of Karnataka Urban Water Supply and Drainage Board.

At a recent meeting, chief executive officers of Zilla Panchayats had been directed to take steps to meet drinking water requirements during the summer months. District-level meetings of legislators would also be convened to address local specific problems, he said.

Shettar said money would be released in a couple of days to the task force committees headed by the legislators to tackle water shortage. His reply came in the wake of complaints by the Opposition that there is a severe water shortage across in the State.
