Mathew Thomas, who runs the place, quit a lucrative job in advertising to pursue his passion — baking, and baking French pastries at that.

Mathew is not one of those typical bosses who commands from his seat. He personally supervises the baking process and sometimes bakes the pastries himself. Apart from baking, Mathew dishes out Continental food like lasagna, various types of pastas, grilled and roast meat especially turkey and ham, in addition to some exceptional salads. During Easter and Christmas, a lot of pastries and Continental food are made fresh and are sold off the shelf in a jiffy. Mathew usually takes orders for small parties and caters his pastries to a few restaurants and bakeries across the City. 

Says Mathew, “Fraisier, a strawberry cake, is made from fresh strawberries with pastry cream and is layered between vanilla sponge cakes. This is a favourite of most people.” He further explains that Lemon Meringues and Macarons, made out of egg whites and almond powder, are popular too.

MaBaker serves authentic French confectioneries, plated desserts, puff pastries and entremets which are big desserts and are made in a span of two days. These pastries come in different layers and the mix of layers is never the same. He makes sure there’s a variety in every pastry he bakes.

Mathew takes great care while making these pastries. He adds his magical touch to the shapes and personally regulates the temperature at which the chocolate has to be melted or the breads have to be baked. Mathew says, “I have a passion for baking cakes and indulge myself completely. I take utmost care and do it neatly. I cater according to the needs of my customers, sometimes I give different names to them as all French names are not clear to the people here.”
