Days after Jayalalithaa’s close aide  V K Sasikala took over the reins of the AIADMK, senior party leaders are urging her to become  the chief minister of Tamil Nadu.

As support poured in from different quarters for Sasikala’s ascension to the top job, AIADMK sources said Revenue Minister  R B Udhayakumar has come forward to sacrifice his Assembly membership to enable her to contest from Thirumangalam constituency in Madurai district, which he represents.

‘Pay heed to wishes’
Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker M Thambidurai  led the chorus of support for Sasikala’s choice as chief minister, as he issued a letter in his official letterhead urging the new general secretary to take over the reins of the government immediately, acceding to the wishes of the party cadres.

“We have seen that people in India have not accepted the situation where the leadership of the party is in one hand and the leadership of the government is in the other,” Thambidurai said.

The past has shown that governments had to face several hurdles and were incapable of fulfilling their promises when the leaderships of the party and the government rested with different people, the AIADMK leader said.
